Exploring Sumatra’s nature reserves

In 2017, my work on a Medan project is expected to be completed. One of the client’s engineers asked me if I wanted to go see the orangutans, so I decided to follow.

The destination is at the foot of the mountain ranges that make up the spine of Sumatra.

I travel west for 100 kilometers from Medan and come to a mountain range as shown in the photo below. The journey took about 3 hours.

It hurts when durian spines pierce the body, so they wear a protective vest to protect their body.

A long suspension bridge was built.
It is rare to encounter a landscape like this in the city, and the feeling of being in a secluded area is soothing.

The river is shallow but has a rapid flow, and has an abundant amount of water.

Because of that, there is no brown turbidity which is common in tropical rivers, so there is a kind of refreshing feeling.

This is an office building where visitors can register to enter the wildlife sanctuary to see the orangutans upstream.

There is a series of simple cottage-style buildings near the riverbank, and I think these are buildings for “eco-loving” visitors to stay.

A group of visitors to see orangutans and other native animals.
In order to manage my physical condition, I gave up on continuing to climb the mountain.
I should have almost met the orangutans here in Sumatra, but unfortunately I did not.
